For avid
figure collectors out there, one of the most anticipated (and dreaded) figure
events at the start of 2014 is Winter Wonder Festival or Winter WonFes. For those
not familiar, Winter WonFes is a bi-annual event held in Makuharu Messe in
Chiba, Japan. It is a figure event where “garage kits” are displayed and sold
as artists replicate anime and game characters. This is also an event for
various figure manufacturers to sell and display their future releases. In
other words, this event is sort of “heaven” and “hell” for avid figure
collectors.
Before anything else, I am sorry for not posting.
I’ve been so busy with work and the cold didn’t help because I got sick. I can’t take the cold even when I was small; the
cold here in the Philippines went below 23 degrees and I am fully covered these
past days. While that is normal for most people, it’s not for me and my energy
keeps going down due to the cold. Then I had a slight fever and needed to rest.
Hopefully now, I’ll have more energy and I can update my blogs.
For this post after my mini hiatus, I want to post
the displayed figures I took photos of in Otaku Expo 2014 held last January
11-12 in Megatrade Hall, SM Megamall. I didn’t take pictures of the booths,
stage and activities because I wanted to focus on the figures---which I haven’t
done in a long time.
Time flies so fast and we are on the month of Christmas already: December. It’s actually one of my favorite months of the year (of course my birthday month, September, will always be the top) because I buy great Christmas gifts for family and friends, have get-togethers with relatives and close friends, and buy a few some things for myself.
And speaking of buying things for myself, I want to share my collective hauls that I bought for the month of November before posting new blog entries I am excited to share. Usually, I just buy products I want. But for the month of November, it was about health and beauty care, figures, and cosplay.
Sorry for the really late post. I am sick (again) and
was just able to have the condition to post in my blog.
For this last part, I will explain more on my
figurine collecting, like how it started and what type of figures I collect. It
will also cover some advices and terms you should know when you plan to collect.
For
the second part of my Figure Collecting General Information, I will tell where I
buy authentic and original figures for my collection and how to determine fakes
and originals. I will be suggesting online and physical shops locally since I
only tried buying internationally once or twice but not on figures.

About Figures and Their Types: FAQ/General Information on Figure Collecting
5:32 AM
For my next FAQ/General Information series, I will
cover some basic things about figure collecting and will be divided into 3
parts since it is sort of broad. Aside from cosplaying, my other hobby is figure
collecting in which I gave a bit of an introduction about it here. But for
those who still want to know more about this, uh, not-so-inexpensive hobby of
mine, I have prepared a FAQ/General Information on Figure Collecting.
(Warning: This is going to be long and image heavy)
Wow, time flies fast and it’s the end of October already. It’s now November and pretty soon, we will be busy with Christmas, which is just more than a month away. With November here, I’d like to start it by showing some of the few hauls I got for the month of October (with Cosplay Mania 2013 as the main cosplay event). I know it is late, but I just want to write about it and show the things I really collect hehe.
Well, for the month of October, I only had two hauls---with the ones from Cosplay Mania as the biggest one.

Cosplay Mania 2013 Hauls |
Top picture (L-R 1st row): Poring stuff toy, Rilakkuma stuff toy, Korilakkuma stufftoy
(L-R 2nd row): Bandai D-Arts - MegaMan X, Wave Beach Queens Fate/Stay Night Saber Lily, Nendroid Petit Saber Pajama, Shingeki no Kyojin Hanji Zoe Pin, Cosplay Snapshots Project Photobook 4, Fullmetal Alchemist Manga Volume 13
Second Picture (L-R 1st row): Ling Yao and Edward Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist) Keybies from Keybie Cafe
(L-R 2nd row): Evangelion Voice Dice Keychains, Reika Poster Cards
The picture above is a combination of both Marc and I’s hauls. Most of the ones here were bought from the various stores in Cosplay Mania, while some of them were ordered prior to the event---thanks to Onegai Oniichan. I already took a look at some of my hauls here, but I haven’t opened Saber Lily yet because I still don’t have time with the many things to do. In fact, I still have a lot of figures I haven’t opened yet! Hopefully, by this November I can do that and photoshoot them one by one. XD
-----------------------------
For the second haul of October, I only got a few than Cosmania, but it was because I ordered them prior to getting last October 19 in Megamall. This time, all came from Onegai Oniichan.

October 19, Sunday, Hauls |
(L-R 1st row): Fullmetal Alchemist Artbooks Volumes 1 and 2 (gifts for a friend)
(L-R 2nd row): Fate/Zero Illyasviel Rubber Strap Banpresto Ichiban Kuji, Ichiban Kuji Berserker Chibi, NARUTO Shippuden Petit Chara Land Jiraiya, Kotobukiya Fate/Zero Rubber Strap Collection Irisviel von Einzbern
Also, to be honest, I haven’t taken them off from their boxes or plastic because I don’t want them to get dirty. I plan to display them once we have a display cabinet in our room so they won’t attract dust and will be clean. After all, they are part of my Fate/Zero collection.
----------------------
So yeah, these are my two hauls for the month of October. This will probably give you an idea what things we buy and collect in cosplay and anime events.
And this is also one of the reasons why we are looking forward to every major cosplay and anime events---because we see and buy new hauls that we can add to our collection. :D

After 6 months of hiatus from blogging (man, that was
long), I am finally back and ready to relaunch my new blog!
![]() |
My blog's new look :) |
As you noticed, I changed the look of my blog, but
not only that. See, in those 6 months, I “studied” a bit on blogging and how I
can make Hainrihi’s Discoveries better and more informative instead of just being
more personal and looking like a diary. I realized it needs to have a niche to
not leave my readers and myself confused. Having a niche will also help me
write blog posts and articles better and know what to write exactly. After a long time thinking and fixing, I
decided to write about the things I love most: cosplay, anime/manga, figure
collecting, beauty/makeup and shopping.
Of course, the theme of Hainrihi’s Discoveries is
still discovery and I believe I will still discover things through the categories
mentioned above. For instance, in my two years of cosplaying, I discovered and
learned things I have never learned before and I want to blog about those. All mentioned
are inter-connected with each other so, for sure, I won’t sidetrack from what I
should really concentrate on. Maybe my
other readers will disappear once they find out what my niche is because it is
not much of their interest, but I don’t mind. As long as I write informative
posts on what I really love, I’m good. With that, I am excited to write more
posts and articles on them and I already have a list of the entries I want to
blog.

But aside from Hainrihi’s Discoveries, I realized I also have another love and that is writing my thoughts and opinions on anything that comes to mind. In other words, more on the serious and in-depth writing where I can truly practice my writing skills. At the same time, it will help me write my opinion on issues and events. So, I created a separate blog for that entitled Hainrihi’s Thoughts (I could never leave out the “Hainrihi”, I’m sorry XD)
I placed more about it and and will write an
introduction in the main blog itself, but be sure to check it out. It will be introduced
later this week, so watch out for it. I will
place some articles I have written before in print publications and will
improve them to make it look and sound better.
Also, I changed my comment software to Intense
Debate. Disqus suddenly didn’t work in this layout despite trying to get it
back, and so all the comments before have disappeared L. I think I still have a record of those in my Disqus account. After much research and great reviews, I went
with Intense Debate. I apologize in advance for the inconvenience and the
sudden change.

With that, I introduce my new blog! Hope you like
it and happy reading! J
