Reflecting on the film's themes, Hathaway shares, "we wanted to make a movie that would make audiences feel wonderful by telling a story about people who are a pleasure to know and are fun to watch together."

Director Showalter adds, "it’s about something. I think, in our own small way, we’re commenting on how we, as a society, look at other people’s choices, and rush to judgment and want to have opinions about what other people choose to do with their relationships."

Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray recently had the wonderful opportunity to sit down for an exclusive conversation with two prominent figures of the silver screen, Anne Hathaway and Nick Galitzine, in anticipation of the highly awaited release of The Idea of You on Prime Video, set to stream on May 2.

In this captivating interview shared on Gray’s social media, lead actors Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine shared insights into the film's unique appeal and its relevance to contemporary audiences.

"Really fun music. Really, really fun music, great concert scenes, unexpected love connections– sandwiches," remarked Hathaway, teasing the delightful surprises awaiting viewers.

Based on the acclaimed contemporary love story by author Robinne Lee, The Idea of You centers on Solène (portrayed by Hathaway), a 40-year-old single mom who embarks on an unexpected romance with Hayes Campbell (played by Galitzine), the 24-year-old lead singer of August Moon, the hottest boy band on the planet.

During the interview, Hathaway reflected on the film's portrayal of women facing societal pressures and who have “ceased to be seen”. "Robinne tapped into something very real. And she captured something very real that's not fair. And it's sort of shameful in its truth. And the best way to get rid of it is to change it by making something that lives in defiance of it," she noted, highlighting the film's empowering narrative.

Meanwhile, Gray delves into the essence of Galitzine's character – his portrayal as a public figure and musician. With candid honesty, Galitzine shared the inner workings of his creative process. As a young actor, still exploring and trying out new and exciting roles in the industry, Galitzine said, “I think who Hayes was off-camera and off-stage was intriguing to me, and I resonated with him. He's a vulnerable, very feeling young man. He has a very strong moral compass and he's just really– he's looking for that connection.”

Galitzine added, “I mean, maybe not consciously, but when he finds Solène, there's this instant sort of– I use the word nourishing a lot, but it really, it nourishes him and imbues him with this energy that I think he'd been missing a lot of his life and certainly not finding in his career.”

Gray, known for her authentic narratives weaving personal triumphs with struggles, champions the cause of female empowerment. But that’s not the only good news related to Rurouni Kenshin because, soon, fans can marathon the first three films on Netflix. “Rurouni Kenshin: Origins”, Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno”, and “Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends” are dropping on June 18, together with “Rurouni Kenshin: The Final”. 

I’m excited for this because Marc and I would love to marathon the first three films before watching “Rurouni Kenshin: The Final” and “Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning”. We are big fans of the anime series, so we were really happy when the three live-action movies came out in theaters. We thought the third film was the last; then we heard the news last year that director Keishi Ōtomo was shooting both the sequel and prequel of the last three films. Imagine our excitement because we watched both OVA movies and seeing them in live-action  would be awesome. 

“Rurouni Kenshin: The Final” is the fourth installment in the Rurouni Kenshin film series and focuses on Himura Kenshin who is brought on a fight involving revenge by Yukishiro Enishi. The fifth installment and prequel to the film series entitled “Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning” tells the story on how Kenshin got his cross-shaped scar. It also focuses on his past as the assassin Hitokiri Battōsai during the final years of the Bakumatsu and will explore his relationship with a woman named Yukishiro Tomoe.
